Pensions and protests demands action

Sitting on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral, London, looking over the sea of tents “occupying” the forecourt, I wondered what 2011 would be remembered for. Certainly this movement is highlighting that the people on the street see a disconnect between the financial and real economies. But what are pension funds doing to take action?

Are pension funds really long-term investors?

Pension funds used to be considered long-term investors, but the reactionary behaviour of a recent prudence* of pension funds globally has changed my view of their time-horizons and subsequent role in capital markets. *Prudence is the newly-crowned collective noun for pension funds as per the competition in our newsroom.
